IS attacks security checkpoints in Afghanistan: Media


Kabul, Sep 27 (IANS): Militants loyal to the Islamic State (IS) for the first time raided security checkpoints in Afghanistan, local media reported on Sunday.

"Hundreds of Daesh insurgents attacked security checkpoints in Achin district of the eastern Nangarhar province at 06.00 a.m. (local time) on Sunday," Tolo news reported in its news bulletin.

The militants captured two security check posts but police recaptured these, Xinhua news agency quoted Achin district governor Mohammad Ghalib as saying.

This is the first time that IS (Daesh) fighters engaged with Afghanistan security forces.

IS, according to media reports, has also declared war against Taliban militants in Afghanistan.
