Super typhoon to hit Taiwan, China

Beijing, Sep 27 (IANS): A super typhoon, the 21st this year, is heading towards Taiwan and southeast China, officials said on Sunday.

With speeds of 15 to 20 km per hour, Dujuan is currently approaching the coast of northeastern Taiwan and is expected to make landfall on Monday afternoon with maximum sustained winds of 48 to 50 metres per second, Xinhua news agency reported.

It will land in China's Fujian province on Tuesday morning, bringing with it gales and heavy rain, the officials said.

The typhoon is also expected to batter parts of Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces.

Waves of up to 4-7 metres along coastal areas are expected, posing a danger to offshore activities, the officials added.
