Beltangady, Sep 28: In an alleged case of suicide, a woman died in a fire while her husband sustained serious burn injuries. The incident occured late night on Sunday September 27 at Panjolimar, Ujire, and came to light on Monday September 28.

The deceased has been identified as Poornima alias Meenakshi (25). Her husband Suresh Gowda has been admitted to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru.

It is said that at around 11 pm on Sunday, Poornima poured kerosene and set herself on fire. When Suresh rushed to her rescue, he too sustained injuries. They were taken to Wenlock hospital, where Poornima breathed her last on Monday morning.

The reason behind taking the extreme step is not known, but sources said that the couple had some marital issues. Unconfirmed sources claimed that Poornima was being harassed by her in-laws.

Besides her husband, Poornima leaves behind two children studying in primary school.

Beltangady police have registered a case.

People,I cant understand why should this woman set fire herself when they have two children?when she had marital Problems and harassment from in laws, then go away with Kids and man.It is far better than suecide ,die, and man in Hospital, who knows how his condition is,what will they do now without parents?many have marital Problems ,that doesnt mean immediately set fire and die.woman should be bit strong to fight against this atleast for Kids.I really feel pity for These Kids.I dont have any understanding for this womans act.

Many people say worship parents but what would people say if these very parents turn into villians by ill treating their daughter in laws and thereby destroying their sons married life as well. There people just worship God and not human beings. But if sometimes the daughter in law is strong then such evil parents end up on the streets as the son has no other option. Parents do wake up and treat your daughter in laws well just as you treat your daughters.

Its a sad news. People are taking unwise decision for any issues. They should be strong and fight for justice. Poornima would have approached court for justice. I could not understand why these in-laws need from a girl who comes to their as daughter-in-law. Such people should be treated as criminals and punished. It is if a crime on the part of girls. Its shame on the part of humanity for harassing daughter-in-laws.

My feeling about in-laws are that they are very demanding and dominating, these types of in-laws should be called outlaws, plain and simple...
