Sensex sheds 55 points in afternoon trade


Mumbai, Sep 28 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), on Monday was trading 55.46 points or 0.21 percent down during the afternoon session.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 9.70 points or 0.12 percent down at 7,858.80 points.

The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 25,922.71 points, was trading at 25,808.04 points (at 01.04 p.m.) in the afternoon session, down 55.46 points or 0.21 percent from the previous day's close at 25,863.50 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 25,936.89 points and a low of 25,738.54 points in the trade so far.

Good buying was observed in realty, banking and healthcare sectors, while selling pressure was seen in metal sector.

The S&P BSE realty index gained by 2.44 percent, consumer durables index got augmented by 1.84 percent and healthcare index moved up by 0.97 percent. However, metal index dropped by 1.74 percent.
