Hyundai's share in emerging markets up in August

Seoul, Sep 28 (IANS): Hyundai Motor Co. saw its market share in Brazil, Russia and other emerging markets grow in August from a year earlier, industry data showed on Monday, raising hopes that demand might be recovering from a protracted slump.

According to the data made available by each country, Hyundai sold a combined 72,302 cars in four emerging markets -- Brazil, Russia, India and Mexico. The sales were up 8.1 percent from a year earlier.

Hyundai Motor's car sales accounted for 10.8 percent of the 672,254 cars sold in the four countries in the cited month, up from nine percent tallied a year earlier, Yonhap news agency cited the data as showing.

The brisk sales in those countries were mainly driven by strong demand for car models such as Solaris, Creta and HB20, which were designed to target local customers.

In particular, Solaris sales in Russia came to 1,581 units in August, the largest of the car models sold in the country.

The Creta also ranked first in India's SUV market with its August sales reaching 7,434 units.
