Nepal cable operators to stop broadcast of Indian channels

Kathmandu, Sep 28 (IANS): Cable TV operators in Nepal on Monday announced that they would blackout Indian channels from 10 a.m. on Tuesday in a symbolic protest against India's unofficial economic blockade of Nepal.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of cable operators, with the president of the Federation of Nepal Cable Television Association, Sushil Parajuli, saying that the shutdown was a result of India's intrusion into the national sovereignty of Nepal.

"We received pressure from a few parties and public to stop broadcast of Indian channels," Parajuli said.

According to him, the broadcast of Hindi channels has already been stopped in the cities of Chitwan, Pokhara and Mahendranagar.
