Youth peace fest begins in Chandigarh


Chandigarh, Sep 29 (IANS): Nearly 300 participants from 30 countries were joined by hundreds of youth from Chandigarh and surrounding areas, as the 10th edition of the Global Youth Peace festival (GYPF) got underway here on Tuesday with prayers for world peace.

The annual event started with a mass yoga and meditation session at the Sector 16 cricket stadium inaugurated by Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki.

Prayers for world peace from all religions were performed, GYPF organiser Pramod Sharma from NGO Yuvsatta said here.

The meditation session was led by Phra Niti and Phra Povit of the World Peace Initiative, Thailand.

The star attraction at the youth fest was Bernie Mayer, the American Gandhi and GYPF's youth ambassador. He dresses up like Mahatma Gandhi.

The youth fest will conclude on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
