Ana Ivanovic no match for Muguruza at Wuhan Open

Wuhan, Sep 30 (IANS): Garbine Muguruza produced a spectacular mid-match turnaround to stun Ana Ivanovic and take her place in the quarter-finals of the Wuhan Open on Wednesday.

After dropping a tight first set, Muguruza, the No.5 seed, elevated her game to another level, hurtling towards a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ivanovic, the No. 9 seed, reports Xinhua.

"I was expecting a difficult match. In the first set I think Ana was playing good. I was playing good also," Muguruza said.

"But I don't know, in the important moments I didn't find my best level. In the second and the third I found my way, and my tennis level was great. So I'm very happy with my improvement through in the match."

She will next face either Kristina Mladenovic or Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.

A victory there and Muguruza will take a significant step towards the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Finals in Singapore.

"I have no idea. I don't know how's it going," she said when asked about her chances of reaching the Finals.

"I don't know how much is the difference or whatever. If I go, it's going to be great. If not, it's also going to be good. I am not going to be that obsessed with Singapore. I'm doing well. Definitely I'm trying to go, but I just want to stay calm."
