Seven Indian fishermen arrested in Sri Lanka


Colombo, Sep 30 (IANS): Sri Lanka's Navy has assisted its Coast Guard to arrest seven Indian fishermen in the seas of Baththalangunduwa in Kalpitiya.

Over 500 kg fish catch and three GPS instruments were seized form the arrested fishermen on Monday, the Colombo Page reported.

The detained fishermen will be handed over to the department of fisheries and aquatic resources for further investigations, the navy said.

The navy last week arrested 21 fishermen from Tamil Nadu for allegedly poaching in Sri Lankan waters.
