Three killed in Philippines blast


Manila, Oct 1 (IANS): Three people were killed on Thursday when a bomb exploded hitting a convoy of an official in the Philippines' island province of Basilan.

The incident occurred in the provincial capital of Isabela city, Xinhua news agency reported.

Albert Larubis, Isabela city police chief, said the improvised explosive device exploded in front the house of Mayor Cherrylyn Santos-Akbare.

He said initial investigation disclosed that the bomb was planted in a tricycle cab parked along the street.

Police said bomb exploded while the convoy of Vice Mayor Abdulbaki Ajibon was passing and hit its back-up vehicle.

Among the victims were two escorts of Ajibon and the other was a bystander.
