Odisha's registers revenue growth of 25.43 percent


Bhubaneswar, Oct 2 (IANS): Despite slowdown in the global steel and mineral markets, Odisha achieved 25.43 percent growth in revenue generation both from tax and non-tax sources by September against the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.

The state collected Rs.13,187.59 crore from own tax and non-tax revenue, said an official on Thursday.

The state plan expenditure also grew by 24.07 percent by the end of September against the same period of last year, said the official.

Chief Secretary G.C. Pati, who reviewed the revenue generation on Thursday, advised various departments to expedite implementation of administrative reforms, further simplify the ease of doing business and facilitate the process for setting up industrial units.

According to a release from the chief secretary's office, own tax revenue generation by the end of September was Rs.10,134.48 crore, marking a growth of 29.27 percent over last year.

The own tax revenue collection includes land revenue, professional tax, stamps and registration duties, sales tax, vehicle tax and electricity tax.

The revenue from non-tax sources like mining royalty, industrial water tax, irrigation water use, forest and wild life, and other sources was Rs.3,053.10 crore, marking a growth of 14.18 percent over last year, said the release.
