CBI grills jailed Bihar lawmaker in NTPC contrcats scam

New Delhi, Oct 2 (IANS): The CBI on Friday examined a Bihar legislator in connection with the alleged large-scale irregularities in the award of contracts for National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant in Barh area.

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official said lwmaker Anant Singh was grilled in Beur Central Jail here, where he is lodged in connection with a kidnapping-cum-murder case.

The CBI has registered a case against Singh, the legislator from Mokamah, Patna-based company Raj Nandini Projects Private Limited, and "unknown" officials of NTPC's Super Thermal Power Project in Barh for criminal conspiracy, cheating and dishonesty.

"It was alleged that a local group, headed by MLA Singh, allegedly indulged in cartelisation and ring formation in award of contracts in NTPC and did not allow outside parties to participate in the tender process," said the CBI official.

Last month, Singh, known as "Chhote Sarkar" for his muscle and money power, resigned from the ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U).
