Haryana CM pays tribute to Gandhi at Rajghat


New Delhi/Chandigarh, Oct 2 (IANS): Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at the Rajghat memorial in New Delhi on Friday.

Khattar told the media after paying tributes that Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest freedom fighter of the country and his contribution to the prolonged struggle for securing freedom from the British rule is monumental.

"October 2 has great significance for our country as two great personalities, namely Mahatma Gandhi and late prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, were born on this day," Khattar said.

In Chandigarh, Gandhi Jayanti, the 146th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, was celebrated in a traditional way at Haryana Raj Bhavan here with Governor and administrator of Chandigarh Kaptan Singh Solanki paying homage to Gandhi and Shastri.
