Mangalore, Jul 20: Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao informed on Thursday that the Excise teams had conducted 169 raids in the district and booked 33 cases after the arrack ban was imposed from July 1.
Rao told mediapersons that a total of 12 persons were arrested in connection with illicit arrack sale. The teams had seized 3,161 litres of arrack, 38 litres of fake liquor, 1,400 litres of wash and an Esteem car during this period, he informed.
Rao said five excise control rooms and two police control rooms were opened to enforce arrack ban and prevent distribution of illicit liquor in the district. Taluk-wise Excise teams were also formed in the district, he added.
Excise Deputy Commissioner N M Hussain said that the department intended to sell 1,33,000 boxes of Indian Made Liquor (IML) per month through 412 outlets including bars and wine stores in the district. Last year, the target was 60,000 boxes per month, he said.
