Kolar, Oct 3 (DHNS): A final decision on acquiring land for the Yettinahole irrigation project will be taken at the Cabinet meeting scheduled for October 7, Law Minister T B Jayachandra has said.
"All the hurdles in the path of implementing the project have been cleared since the Union government has withdrawn the ordinance to the new Land Acquisition Act. The environmentalists have approached court challenging the project. There are media reports that the court has granted a stay on the project. But, no court has granted a stay and hence there are no impediments to continue with the project," Jayachandra said here on Friday.
The minister was speaking at a function to issue sanction letters of various welfare schemes under the special dairy farming package.
Jayachandra said that the State government will defend the project effectively in the court. Of the seven barrages proposed to be constructed under the project, the work on two have been completed. It costs about Rs 13,000 crore to complete the project and there are no financial constraints for it. The government will surmount all challenges and complete the project on time, the minister said.
