China renews alert for typhoon Mujigae

Beijing, Oct 3 (IANS): China on Saturday renewed weather alert to a yellow one for the approaching typhoon Mujigae, which is expected to batter China's southern regions, the meteorological authority said.

Mujigae, the 22nd typhoon of the year, has entered south China Sea in the morning, and is expected to move northwest at a speed of 20 kms per hour with strengthening force, Xinhua cited the National Meteorological Centre.

It is expected to land on coastal areas of Hainan province on Sunday before noon.

The typhoon will bring gales to coastal regions of Guangdong and Hainan provinces in the coming two days. Most parts of Hainan and Guangdong will see heavy or torrential rain.

China has a four-tier colour-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
