Nine killed in Philippines accident


Manila, Oct 3 (IANS): Nine people were killed and five others injured on Saturday when a passenger van rammed into a tree in Philippines' Cotabato province.

A police official said eight of them died on the spot while the ninth expired in a hospital, Xinhua news agency reported.

The driver was among those injured but was nowhere to be found. The official added the driver may have fallen asleep, causing the van to ram into the tree.
