Four of a family found dead in Assam town

Guwahati, Oct 5 (IANS): Four members of a family were found dead inside their house in Sarthebari town in Assam's Barpeta district on Sunday evening, police said.

The bodies were identified to be of Prabin and Suparna Barman, and their two minor sons, Abhilekh and Rishikesh.

Police said that while the bodies of the two minors were lying on a bed in one room, the bodies of the couple were found hanging from the ceiling in two other rooms.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that the couple first poisoned the two kids and then hanged themselves," a police official said, adding that they could confirm it only after the post-mortem report.

"Locals said none of them were seen since last evening (Saturday). Today (Sunday)evening, some neighbours went to the rented house of the couple to inquire and found them dead. The neighbours said Prabin was without any work for the last several months and that the family was going through severe financial crisis," police said.
