Jammu and Kashmir assembly adjourned amid ruckus

Srinagar, Oct 5 (IANS): The Jammu and Kashmir assembly was adjourned for an hour on Monday following ruckus by the opposition over relief to flood victims.

Immediately after the day's proceedings started, legislators of opposition National Conference and the Congress stood on their seats shouting slogans against the government, alleging it had failed in providing relief to families hit by the September 2015 floods.

"Do not exploit flood victims," read banners displayed by the Congress legislators.

The protesting legislators finally came near the speaker and clashed with the assembly security staff. Some protesting lawmakers also flung papers towards the speaker's chair.

Amid ruckus, the speaker adjourned the house for 15 minutes.

When the assembly reassembled, the protesting lawmakers again jumped into the well of the house. The speaker then adjourned it for an hour.
