Dead served notices for communal tension in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Oct 5 (IANS): Dead people and minors were served notices by a sub-divisional magistrate court for abetting communal tension in the Jharkhand capital city.

The court issued notices to 72 people, among them some people who are dead and minors, under Section 107 (abetment) of the Indian Penal Code.

The residents of Doranda locality of Ranchi received the notices on Saturday and Monday, and were shocked to find notices were issued even to dead people.

Among these Raju alias Haider Ali and Gaddi. Haider, according to his family members, died in 2009 and Gaddi died last year.

Three minors were also served notices.

Sources in the court said the notices issued were on the basis of recommendations from Doranda police station.

"The recommendation for action under Section 107 of the IPC was provided on the basis of previous records. We cannot rule out mistake. The mistake will be corrected if the family members produce the evidence," a police official told IANS.

Police said the minors were involved in arson.
