All help will be given to lynched man's family: IAF chief

New Delhi, Oct 5 (IANS): Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha on Monday reiterated that all help will be extended to the family of the IAF personnel whose father was lynched in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh.

"We are extending whatever help is required. We are in constant touch, not only with him and his family, but also the local authorities," Raha told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.

"Everybody is considerate and they are trying their best to help him and the family. Whatever needs to be done, it is being done," he said.

On September 28, 50-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq, a resident of Bisara village of Dadri in Greater Noida near Delhi, was dragged out of his home and lynched following rumours that he ate beef. The family has denied the allegations saying they only ate mutton.

Akhlaq's eldest son Mohammad Sartaj is a corporal in the IAF.

Asked about moving the family out of the village, Raha said: "It is up to him to decide. Once he makes the decision, we will help him."

The IAF chief on Saturday said they were trying to move the family out of the area to a 'secure air force area'.
