Wreckage of missing Indonesian plane found


Jakarta, Oct 5 (IANS): The wreckage of a small passenger plane, which went missing last week in eastern Indonesia, has been found, an official said on Monday.

Head of National Search and Rescue Office (BASARNAS), F.H.B Soelistyo said the wreckage was found at Ulu Salu village in Luwu district of South Sulawesi province, Xinhua news agency reported.

"Tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, we will dispatch a helicopter to the scene and check the condition of the area, and then the follow-up work can begin," he said.

Earlier, BASARNAS deputy Heronius Guru said the discovery of the wrekage was reported by local residents.

The twin engine Otter DHC-6 plane with 10 people aboard lost contact at 0636 GMT on Friday en route from Masamba to Makassar in South Sulawesi province.

People on board the aircraft, operated by Aviastar airline, comprised the pilot, two technicians and seven passengers.
