Seoni (Madhya Pradesh), Oct 5 (IANS): Curfew was on Monday clamped in a Madhya Pradesh town after incidents of arson in Seoni district following the death of local BJP leader Kooper Chandra Thakre who was badly injured in a scuffle on Saturday, an official said.

Thakre died after his car hit a bicycle-rider in Barghat town and the latter's two friends, who reached the place of the incident, beat up the BJP leader badly.

He was rushed to Nagpur for treatment but succumbed to his injuries late on Sunday night, police said.

As soon as the news of his death reached Barghat town, his supporters vented their ire by stoning vehicles and setting fire to some shops. District officials, who reached the site, also faced the fury of the irate mob.
