AAP legislator can't be arrested till December 15: court

New Delhi, Oct 5 (IANS): The Delhi High Court on Monday extended the interim protection of AAP legislator Jarnail Singh, accused of assaulting an engineer, telling the police not to arrest him till December 15.

Justice Indermeet Kaur extended the protection granted to Jarnail Singh, the legislator from Tilak Nagar, saying he had been cooperating in the investigation.

The court heard the anticipatory bail plea of Jarnail Singh, who is also accused of tearing up official documents and threatening to frame South Delhi Municipal Corporation junior engineer Athar Mustafa in a corruption case.

A scuffle reportedly took place when Mustafa, with his team and police, tried to bring down an illegal structure in Krishna Park Extension area. The legislator apparently objected to this.

Jarnail Singh was first granted protection on May 6. The trial court had rejected Jarnail Singh's anticipatory bail plea, after which he moved the high court.
