Ethiopian prime minster re-elected in parliament


Addis Ababa, Oct 6 (IANS): Ethiopia's parliament on Monday re-elected Hailemariam Desalegn as the prime minister of the East African country in the inaugural session of the new parliament.

Hailemaraim, having been in power since the death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in 2012, was sworn in to serve another five-year term, reports Xinhua news agency.

Hailemariam is chairperson of the country's ruling party the Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) that won the majority vote of the elections in May this year.

The inaugural session of the country's parliament, the House of People's Representatives, also re-elected Abadula Gemeda as its speaker and Shitaye Minale as the deputy speaker of the house.
