Schools, colleges to remain closed after Varanasi violence

Lucknow, Oct 6 (IANS) : Schools, colleges and other institutions remain closed in Varanasi on Tuesday, following Monday's violence that erupted when saints and Hindu religious groups were protesting against a lathi charge and ban on immersion of idols in Ganga.

The orders were issued by the district magistrate Rajmani Yadav after Monday's situation in the temple town, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which witnessed violence during a 'Pratikar Yatra'.

Situation limped back to normal and curfew imposed in four police station areas was lifted by Monday midnight, an official said, adding schools and colleges were closed as a matter of caution.

Violence erupted when there was a sudden stone pelting and the rallyists turned violent and started targeting the police personnel escorting them.

Rapid Action Force (RAF) and provincial armed constabulary (PAC) have been deployed in Varanasi, Dalji Chowdhary, additional director general of police (Law and Order) said.

At least 26 people have been arrested for their involvement in the violence, that injured over 50 people, including a magistrate and a circle officer.

The procession, attended by over 10,000 people, was called by many Hindu groups to protest against a lathi charge and banning of immersion of idols in river Ganga, as has been the tradition during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Navratri.

The Kanpur city is having more than 300 leather Tanneries on the banks of Ganga river, which use huge quantity of Ganga water to clean and process Cow & Buffalo leather procured from all over north India and Nepal. After processing leather the waste water containing harmful chemicals and dirt of leather is left back to same Ganga river, which further flows to Triveni Sangam in Allahabad and Ghats of Varanasi (Banaras). The half burnt dead bodies in Harishchandra Ghat of Varanasi is also thrown in the same Ganga giving a very gory sight. In that same dirty water the holy idols of Gods are immersed.
If cow slaughter is banned in U.P then all tanneries of Kanpur will be closed thereby throwing lakhs of lower caste workers on the road. Can any govt create so many lakh jobs for such lower caste uneducated workers if tanneries of Kanpur are closed ? Then we have to import leather from foreign country and the prices of leather products such as shoes, Chappals, ladies bags purses will be beyond the purchasing capacity of even middle class people. Can our country afford such luxury ?

The trouble creating politicians sitting at the ivory tower and watching with delight the bloodshed of the innocent never learned or might not have read that "we will reap from where we sow".

Once the people of India of different religions lived in peace and harmony but the self-centered politicians who have taken politics as a very lucrative profession without having much education or practical knowledge of life, but only through delivering false promises and also though injecting venomous religious virus undermined the nation with bewilderment already.

As per govt report, 3,636 MLD of sewerage water flows into ganga from 118 towns.

Fecal coliform contamination, chemical pollutions from chromium, mercury, lead, chlorinated compounds turn the water of the river into highly toxic, disease bearing and even carcinogenic agents.

Ganga has the distinction of being one of planet's most polluted rivers.

This Government has no control over administration,Economy or any other things.Country is running as our constitution and earlier Governments had developed a system which is just keeping the country moving. GDP has come down to 3% ,Industries are getting closed due to no demand and liquidity crisis,Anybody can take up law in its hand and can do whatever he wants to do.Government has purchased News Channels,News Papers and journalists who are propagating lies, propaganda and false information.Sangh parivars affiliates are trying to start riots, but due to patience and restraints shown by Muslims have made all their strategies failed. They want to win Bihar election at all costs as its result will decide BJP future. They have been caught throwing beef in temples to ignite riots but due to alert citizens ,their designs have failed.

I agree it’s a tradition , but imagine crores of people throwing half burnt corpse into the river , this is not what our ancestors though of . To keep the tradition going , may be they can build a small tank where people can put small amount of ash . We cant make Ganga a drainage river it will be a shame for all Hindus …don’t you think
