Ex-German player Effenburg backs Klopp for Liverpool job

Berlin, Oct 6 (IANS): With Juergen Klopp tipped as a hot favourite to succeed Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager, former Germany midfielder Stefan Effenberg has said he believes the former Borussia Dortmund boss will be a perfect fit for the job.

"Liverpool is one of the greatest atmospheres. It's pretty much the same as Dortmund. The fans stay with everything behind the club and this is what Jürgen Klopp likes and what he needs," Effenberg said at the Aspire For Sport conference here on Monday.

"So maybe, very soon, we'll hear something from Jürgen Klopp, to make a decision, maybe, for Liverpool," he added.

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group decided to put an end to Rodgers' three-year reign at the helm after the club slipped to the 10th spot in the English Premier League (EPL) table with 12 points. The former English champions have managed just three wins from the first eight matches of the curent EPL season.

Liverpool are reportedly thinking of bringing in Klopp as a replacement for the Irishman.

Klopp had led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final during his seven years in charge of the German club. Under Klopp, Dortmund developed into a formidable unit and his tactical ablity has made him one of the most coveted managers in Europe.

The 48-year-old is currently on a self-imposed sabbatical from the game, but Effenburg believes that Klopp is ready to take on the high pressure job of managing a top club in the EPL.

"He gave me this answer a couple of weeks ago. He said: 'I'm ready for a team that's not on the highest level, to create something, to build something up.' This could be Liverpool, right?" the former Bayern Munich midfielder said.
