Mangalore, Jul 22: The local office of a TV channel TV9, located at Lower Bendoor III Cross near Bendoor Well circle was attacked and ransacked by some miscreants on the night of 22 July.
Sources said that two persons entered TV9 channel office and started destroying equipment. TV9 reporter Rajesh, cameraman Wilfred and an office boy were present in the office when the attack took place.
It is learnt that a female collaborator was also present in the miscreants' group. It is alleged that their faces were aired by the channel in connection with a crime story on Saturday night and Sunday.
When reporter Rajesh tried to protect the office equipment from being destroyed, he had a finger of his left hand severely injured. He was also assaulted by the miscreants. A video camera, a few computers, a ceiling fan, a fax machine and a laptop were also destroyed.
Sources said that one of the persons who was involved in the attack had called the TV9 cameraman at about 5 pm and abused him for showing his face in a crime=related story.
SP Satish Kumar rushed to the spot and directed the police to arrest the miscreants immediately. MLA U T Khader, additional
SP Lokesh Kumar, youth Congress leader H M Ashraf, Congress leader Vishwasdas and others visited the spot on hearing the news.
Police security arrangement has also been made around the office now. The miscreants appear to have taken advantage of the location of the TV9 office which is operating from an erstwhile independent house located in a compound.
