Australian critical after fall from Rome hotel

Rome, Oct 6 (IANS/AKI): A 36-year-old Australian was in intensive care after plunging from his fifth floor hotel room in central Rome, doctors at the Umberto I university teaching hospital said.

The man reportedly fell onto a second floor balcony at the Boscolo hotel in Piazza della Repubblica on Sunday after a row with his wife earlier in the day.

Hotel guests told investigators they heard “shouting, then a loud thud”, Rome-based daily Il Messaggero reported. The paper cited hospital sources as saying the man had been drinking.

The man's wife told police investigators she was unaware of her husband's fall as she was sleeping at the time.
