Trader shot, looted in Ghaziabad


Ghaziabad, Oct 6 (IANS): A trader, carrying a large amount of cash, was on Tuesday intercepted by four armed men, who snatched the money and shot him when he tried to resist,police said.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon near ALT Centre under Kavi Nagar police station.

Police said stationery wholesaler Shobhit Gupta (56) was carrying the cash to return to a lender from whom he had borrowed it last week. As his vehicle reached Arya Nagar, four men flagged him down and as he stopped, three of them sprang in, overpowered him and drove away.

The car was driven to the ALT centre where the robbers sought to snatch the bag containing cash. When he tried to resist, one of them shot at him, hitting him in the leg.

As Gupta lost his grip, the robbers snatched the bag and fled. The businessman then phoned the control room to report the robbery.

"We are in process of working out the case. We have formed teams to work out at the earliest," said Superintendent of Police (City) Ajay Pal.
