Udupi, Jul 23: Amateur yakshagana troupes should maintain their autonomy, said scholar M Prabhakar Joshi at the inaugural function of “Havyasi (amateur) Yakshagana Mandaligala Samelan” (Conference of the Amateur Yakshagana Troupes) here on Sunday July 22.
The function was organized by the Sri Lakshmi Janardhana Yakshagana Kala troupe as part of its golden jubilee celebrations.
He further said that it was essential for them to study and know more about this art form. To present Yakshagana shows technology should be used in a proper manner, he added.
He said that government should not start Yakshagana Academy just for the name sake but it should also help them in the future.
There should be certain dreams before starting an academy. Any academy should have a museum, library and other facilities, he said.
It was necessary to create consciousness among the school students about the importance of Yakshagana, said MLA K Raghupati Bhat. He further said that children, at present, do not know the importance of this art form.
Ananda Ganga welcomed the gathering.
