Suspension of two NC members from J&K assembly revoked

Srinagar, Oct 7 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday revoked the suspension of two members from the opposition National Conference (NC).

Gupta revoked his Tuesday's order to suspend Altaf Ahmad Kaloo and Abdul Majeed Larmi for the remaining period of the assembly session after requests from Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and opposition members, Yusuf Tarigama of the CPI-M and Hakim Yaseen of Peoples Democratic Front (PDF).

The speaker asked Tarigami and the assembly secretary to inform the National Conference legislators of his decision.

After speaking to the NC legislators - who were holding a protest sit-in on the lawns of the legislature complex - Tarigami informed the speaker that the National Conference was ready to join the house proceedings if the chairman of the legislative council, the upper house of the state's bicameral legislature, also revoked the suspension of its other two legislators.

The council chairman had suspended Ali Muhammad Dar and Showkat Ahmad for the remaining period of the session after a ruckus in the upper house.

The autumn session of the state's assembly and council began here on October 3 and will end on October 10.
