Villager killed in police firing in Jharkhand


Ranchi, Oct 7 (IANS): One person was killed and five injured in police firing in Jharkhand's Palamau district on Wednesday, police said.

"One villager was killed while some others were injured in the police firing. A few policemen too were injured in clashes with villagers," Jharkhand Police spokesperson S.N. Pradhan told IANS.

Police sources said villagers and police clashed at Saraidih village, around 190 km from Ranchi, when police went there to arrest a sorcerer. The agitated villagers pelted police with stones, injuring four personnel.

In the retaliatory police firing, one villager was killed and five were injured.

Senior police officials have rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
