Mangalore, Jul 24: State commission for backward classes’ former member S V Amin has drafted and presented to Dakshina Kannada district- in-charge Secretary Bharat Lal Meena, a former deputy commissioner of the district, a paper titled ‘Infrastructural needs of City and DK district.
Addressing a press conference, Amin said that the draft paper deals with long-term, sustainable development planned for the twin coastal districts. First step to be taken is to concrete of all the major roads and connection roads across the district to reduce the maintenance cost incurred every year. He said that a two-way flyover has been proposed in the agenda, starting from hotel Roopa on Balmatta road till taluk Panchayat office to meet the demands of the heavy traffic. He also suggested another flyover could start from Central theatre right up to KMC light House hill.
He said to enhance tourism a concept of ‘Temples on Wheels has been proposed, under which all famous pilgrims centres like Mangalore, Subramanya, Dharmasthala, Udupi and Kollur would have railway connectivity for the convenience of tourists.
In the agenda he has highlighted some of the immediate requirements of the city such as subway at Nantoor Junction, expansion of all narrow roads in the city, a separate city bus stand, hygienic markets and toilet facilities across the city.
