Mangaluru, Oct 8: In what could have been a major tragedy, an Omni car caught fire at a petrol bunk at Capitanio here on Thursday October 8.

The Omni car had come to the petrol bunk to fill LPG. Soon after filling, the driver turned on the ignition and the car caught fire all of a sudden.

The driver immediately got out and fled away. The alert staff pushed the vehicle out of the petrol bunk and started dousing the fire using extinguishers.

At the time of the incident, a gas tanker was also in the premises for unloading fuel. Luckily, the fire did not spread to any other vehicle or the petrol kiosks.

Fire personnel rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames.

The identity of the car owner is not yet known, but sources said that the car was of Puttur registration.

By observing the Photographs, as someone above said to reward the Fuel station staff. YES they are the ones who I feel efficiently doused the fire in this case, as one can see in the photos the fire personnel have arrived much later. But what needs to be appreciated is, we can also see that the fire dept is equipped with a two wheeler brigade also, which can reach faster to the accident site. Think petroleum cos., should give the rewards to these pump staff who put their lives at stake to do this job.

The only comment which I wish to make is the total irresponsibility of the driver for leaving the car and fleeing away.

Kudos to ll those who joined hands and douse the fire.

Kudos to the alert staff. Very well done. Hope the management awards them with cash money. If not for them, petrol station would be burnt today.
