Odisha panchayats to get 40 percent of paddy collection income

Bhubaneswar, Oct 9 (IANS): The Odisha government on Thursday decided that the Regulated Market Committees (RMCs) would share 40 percent of their income from paddy collection with panchayants and municipalities in the state.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed that the RMCs would give 40 percent from their two percent income to the panchayats and municipalities coming under the area of respective RMCs, said a release of the chief minister's office.

It said the government expects that the panchayats and municipalities participating in paddy collection would receive about Rs.50 crore annually following the decision.

The collected fund would be utilized for infrastructure development of the panchayats and municipalities, said the release.

Notably, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in its manifesto had promised to provide a share of RMC income to the institutions.
