Saudi to issue new five-year expat IDs

Riyadh, Oct 9 (IANS): Saudi Arabia's passports department has announced that it would start issuing new resident permits with a five-year lifespan for expatriates from October 15, the media reported on Friday.

Companies and expatriates would have to renew them yearly online, with no need to visit the offices of the department. Delivery of renewed cards would be done by courier, Arab News reported.

The old cards would be replaced if they are renewed, if a transfer of sponsorship takes place, or one is issued for the first time.

The old card would only be operational for one year. The new cards can be renewed electronically.

The government has introduced the new card as part of its e-services and to ensure greater control over procedures with modern technology.
