British FTSE 100 up


London, Oct 10 (IANS): FTSE 100 Index, British benchmark stock market gauge increased by 0.65 percent, or 41.34 points, to 6,416.16 points.

The London market on Friday had its eighth straight day of gains. It had a gain of about 4.5 percent for the week, the biggest gain since December 2011.

The miner Glencore led the way after it announced it was cutting its zinc output, Xinhua reported.

Share price of Anglo American increased by 7.23 percent and topped the gainers of the blue chips. Glencore, Standard Chartered, Ashtead Group and BHP Billiton increased, respectively, by 7.00 percent, 5.08 percent, 4.40 percent and 4.32 percent.

Sports Direct International led the top losers of the blue chips with a share price drop of 6.63 percent, followed by Persimmon (2.84 percent), TUI (2.34 percent), National Grid (2.27 percent) and St James's Place (1.90 percent).
