'Indirect tax collection this fiscal shows GDP growth robust'


Kolkata, Oct 10 (IANS): Chief economic advisor Arvind Subramanian on Saturday said the collection of indirect taxes in the first half of the current fiscal year shows a healthy GDP expansion.

"Indirect tax growth: 35.8 percent. And 11.5 percent without new measures. Latter shows tax base-nominal GDP-growth robust," he tweeted.

The indirect tax collection increased 35.8 percent in the April-September period this year at Rs. 3.24 lakh crore which has hit 50 percent of the annual target.
