Mangalore, Jul 25: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy does not support the demand of an organization to merge the places presently belonging to Karnataka, where Konkani has been spoken by large number of people, to Goa, said Eric Ozario, president of the academy here on Wednesday July 25.
 
He was addressing the media persons to brief about the preparation on Konkani Recognition Day – 2007.
 
Karnataka has never discriminated the Konkani community and never treated them as “second grade citizens.” “I rather feel that the community should be grateful to Karnataka for setting up an academy to look after language and literature of the community,” he added.
 
“We are fortunate as the state government of Karnataka has ordered to adopt Konkani as third optional language in the academics” he appreciated.
 
Speaking about the celebrations on the Konkani Recognition Day, the president said that cultural programmes will also be conducted for the students of schools and programmes based on Konkani language and culture will be the part of the day. The academy invites persons from all the communities irrespective of language and religion he added.
