Russia resumes gas supplies to Ukraine

Moscow, Oct 12 (IANS): Russian energy company Gazprom on Monday resumed providing natural gas supplies to Ukraine after receiving a $234 million payment.

Alexey Miller, Gazprom president, said that Ukraine has requested 114 million cubic metres of natural gas per day, the highest level of supply, Efe news reported.

Ukraine has not bought gas from Russia since June 2014 due to an disagreement on the rates set by Gazprom for the fourth quarter after reducing the price to $230 per 1,000 cubic metres.

On September 25, the European Union, Ukraine and Russia signed a temporary agreement to ensure the continuation of gas supply during the winter season.

The agreement will last until the end of March 2016.
