Tokyo, Oct 13 (IANS): Tokyo stocks opened lower in early trading on Tuesday on profit-taking after the previous week's steep gains.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 94.40 points, or 0.51 percent, from last Friday to 18,344.27, reported Xinhua news agency.
Tokyo markets were closed Monday for a national holiday.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 5.80 points, or 0.38 percent, to 1,509.33.
Decliners were led by mining, oil and coal products and transport equipment.
