Two civilians injured in Kashmir gunfight


Srinagar, Oct 13 (IANS): Two civilians, including a girl, were injured during a gunfight between the security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday, police said.

A senior police officer said a patrol party of the security forces was fired upon by hiding militants in Dogripora (Awantipora) village of Pulwama district in the evening, and retaliated, triggering the gunfight.

"Two civilians identified as 12-year-old Iqra Jan and a youth identified as Owais have sustained gunshot wounds during the firing exchanges between the security forces and the militants.

"While the girl was hit on her hand, the youth sustained a gunshot wound in the abdomen," said the official, adding both have been taken to a hospital for treatment.
