Tokyo, Oct 14 (IANS): Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower in early trading on Wednesday following declines in European and US equity markets overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 165.85 points, or 0.91 percent, from Tuesday to 18,068.89. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 17.57 points, or 1.17 percent, to 1,485.56, reported Xinhua.
The decliners were led by iron and steel, machinery and mining.
