Mangalore: Daring Daylight Robbery at Bantwal, Accused Anil Lobo Held

Mangalore, Jul 28: A man forced himself into an isolated house near Kariyala in Kajila in Bantwal taluk and looted it in the presence of the house owners here on Friday July 27 arond 9 am.

According to informed sources, the robber entered the house sleathily and once inside the house brandished a knife at the owners. Then he locked three women present in a single room and looted the house of Rs 10,500 in cash and gold jewellery worth Rs 2.21 lac.

Since it was daytime house members and the neighbors could identify the robber, in spite of his wearing a monkey cap to hide his face.. And so it was not difficult for the police also to trace the culprit.

The house belongs to Boja Saphalya, who is said to be workding abroad. At the time of the robbery in the house only his wife, his mother and a female relative were present. It is suspected that the accused might have been aware that there were no male members currently living in the house.

Police have arrested the culprit who has been identified as Anil Lobo, a resident of Sornad of the same taluk. While fleeing after committing the crime, he is said to have lost his sandals at the spot, which too helped the identification.

Running away from the house, Lobo went up the hillock behind the house, threw the cap there and changed his shirt and sped away in a three-wheeler, which string of events was witnessed by the driver of the lorry parked nearby for loading redstones. He too gave full details to the police, who swung into action at once and nabbed the culprit from his wife's house in Siddakatte. 

It is understood that earlier too Anil Lobo had been caught on charges of bootlegging, but had managed to give a slip to the police. 

A series of robbery, burglary, sandalwood theft and a few other such crimes has taken place in the area and the police are looking into his possible hand in them. stigation, say the localities.

A case of robbery has been registered at the Bantwal rural police station , based on a statement of one Nanda.
