Tianjin to relocate dangerous chemicals companies


Beijing, Oct 14 (IANS): Companies that handle dangerous chemicals in China will be moved to Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone following the August 12 deadly warehouse explosion that killed at least 165 people, local authorities said on Wednesday.

The government of Binhai New Area in Tianjin city has launched a series of measures to promote the development of the area, including relocating companies that handle dangerous chemicals or goods, Xinhua news ahency reported.

Located in the south of Binhai New Area, Nangang Industrial Zone is at least 30 kms from the explosion site, and 10 kms from the nearest residential area.

Meanwhile, a third-party organisation will be authorised to enact and release evaluation reports on the environment, safety and ecology.

The safety checks by Binhai New Area government will continue to the end of 2016 and target enterprises that produce, store or use dangerous chemicals, as well as companies that transport dangerous goods.
