Sri Lanka probing Rajapaksa son's Dubai bank account

Colombo, Oct 14 (IANS): The Sri Lankan government said on Wednesday that the US and India were assisting it in investigating a foreign bank account with millions of US dollars belonging to the son of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Cabinet spokesperson and Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said information regarding the account in Dubai was passed onto the government by some officials of the bank.

"We were informed by the Sri Lankans working at the bank about the account," Senaratne said, adding the Attorney General's department had been notified to take legal action to investigate the bank account.

Former president Mahinda Rajapakse and his family have however denied allegations that they hold foreign bank accounts.
