Natural disaster affects 1.67 mn people in Myanmar


Nay Pyi Taw, Oct 14 (IANS): Natural disaster has affected 1.67 million people in Myanmar so far this year, Yangon region Chief Minister U Myint Swe said on Wednesday.

U Myint Swe said total loss due to severe flood and landslide in the country amounted to over 200 billion Kyats (over $1.56 million), Xinhua news agency reported.

The loss was greater than expected, Vice President U Nyan Tun said.

A total of 415 natural disasters occurred in Myanmar during the 2014-15 fiscal, affecting 74,546 people, according to official statistics.
