UAE: Hemacharya Re-elected Convener of Daiji Dubai Writers' Forum, Stan Ageira Deputy

Dubai, Jul 28: The annual general meeting of Daiji Dubai Writers' Forum was held in the Shezan Restaurant in Karama, Dubai on July 27.
Columnist, story-writer and theatre personality Hemacharya (Stephen H Mascarenhas) was elected convener for another term of two years by unanimous choice. Novelist and story-writer Stan Ageira was elected co-convener and Linus Moras treasurer.

The election process was supervised by senior writer M P Rodrigues and the meeting was attended by about 25 Konkani writers.
On the occasion, a discussion was held on the Konkani story 'Vaal' (Creeper) written by Sunil Fernandes Kota. Stan Ageira moderated the discussion. Edmund Noronha ('Preetam Kirem') was the main speaker on the subject. Vincy Pinto Angelore and Nanu Marol also placed their opinions on the story. After the discussion, story-writer Sunil responded to the questions.
Melvyn Rodrigues presented a draft copy of the proposed constitution for the forum and it was unanimously accepted. Melvyn was helped in the formulation of the constitution by Hemacharya, Dayan D'Souza, M P Rodrigues, Stany Neerude, Robert Fernandes and Walter Nandalike.
Outgoing treasurer Robert Fernandes presented the past term's accounts. Francis Fernandes distributed free copies of his recent book 'Dhullintlim Phulam'. Francis Fernandes, M P Rodrigues, Melvyn Rodrigues, Robert Fernandes, Fatima Kelarai and James Pius, who celebrated their birthdays in July were felicitated.
Melvyn Rodrigues was the guiding spirit behind the programme.
Daiji Dubai is the premier Konkani organization outside India. It has already provided assistance over Rs five lac to writers in their difficulties, without much publicity. Besides, the forum has givern over Rs 15 lac to writers' families and other needy individualls. An aggregate amount of Rs 4 lac by way of eight annual Daiji Dubai award of Rs 50,000 each has been presented to eight notable Konkani writers. The forum has not only published a book titled 'Renvent Phul'lolim Salkam' but also extended its helping hand to various Konkani journals on merit.
The forum has pride in the fact that Daijiworld, Maibhas, Daji Rang Mandir and Kavita Trust came to be formed over the years with inspiration from the Daiji Dubai Writers' Forum and they have blossomed into very popular entities in their own right by now.
