Kundapur: Two fishing boats damaged by massive sea waves, loss estimated at Rs 18 lac

Kundapur, Oct 16: Two fishing boats in Maravante have been damaged after they were caught up in the massive sea waves in the morning on Friday, October 16. The outer harbour work is in progress nearby and the fishermen have expressed anguish that the incident has occurred as the work is not complete.





























A fishing boat named Vishwa Devathe Matubale is owned by Prabhakara Kharvi and the other boat named Vishweswara Matubale boat is owned by Manjunatha Kharvi. The damages to these boats are estimated at Rs 10 lac and Rs 8 lac respectively. The fishermen have escaped unhurt.

Net, wiring, engine and other items in the boats have fallen in the sea. Nearly 35 fishermen suspended fishing work and helped to lift the boats.

Zilla panchayat member Babu Shetty, taluk panchayat member S Raju Poojary, Mahendra Poojary and Tahsildar Gayatri Nayak visited the place.

"Brake water work is going on here for the last three years. The incomplete work has caused this mishap. The work should be completed immediately and the quality of the work should be verified" said Fishermen leader Navinchandra Uppunda.
